The Department for Transport part funded driver development programme, SAFED Aggregates is reaching its deadline of March 31st 2009. LMS are requesting operators move rapidly to confirm their places as not to avoid disappointment. ‘Numerous operators appear to be holding off from taking this invaluable driver development support, simply as the Driver CPC is on our horizon. Some operators appear to be missing the immediate cost saving advantages of participating in the safe and fuel efficient driving programme, said Kevin Taylor, LMS Managing Director. Association of Lorry Loader Manufacturers and Importers (ALLMI) is holding a forum for all operators within the Lorry Loader industry. It is taking place on Thursday, 23rd October in Coventry. Keynote speaker, Kevin Taylor (Managing Director of Liquid Management Solutions) is giving a presentation on the benefits of Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving Techniques.

Kevin Taylor, Managing Director of Liquid Management Solutions, is a guest speaker at the Commercial Motor’s Green Conference today at the Aston Villa F.C. in Birmingham. He is talking about the simple steps operators can take to reduce their carbon footprint. This session covers driver training, aerodynamics, tyre care and inflation, vehicle specification etc.

The Government has announced from March 2008 up to £850,000 from the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund to support the training of aggregates sector truck drivers in greener, sager driving techniques. (more…)

Sources from within DEFRA have indicated that there may be a small proportion of remaining ALSF (Aggregates Levy Sustainability Funds) monies available in February and March 2008. This specific SAFED Aggregates driver development programme is only accessible to operators from within the Aggregates related sectors.

Improvements in fuel efficiency of up to 24.6%

Worksop based Seafield Logistics have reported significant benefits since taking part in the SAFED initiative, funded by the Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF). The SAFED (Safe And Fuel Efficient Driving) programme was introduced by Seafield last year as part of its ongoing strategy to deliver improvements for customers and staff.
